Are you preparing for the Digital SAT (DSAT) and looking to boost your score? This guide will help you understand the test format, provide strategies for the Words in Context questions (Domain 2), and share resources like official CollegeBoard practice materials and top prep books such as Erica Meltzer's The Critical Reader and CollegePanda's SAT Vocabulary.

Understanding the Digital SAT Format

The Digital SAT is the new computer-based version of the SAT. While the content is very similar to the paper test, there are a few key differences:

- You'll take the test on a computer or tablet at a test center or school

- The test is split into two sections: Reading & Writing and Math

- Each section is divided into two modules that are separately timed

- Questions are presented one at a time, and you can't skip or go back to previous questions

Slaying Words in Context (Domain 2)

One of the most challenging question types on the DSAT is Words in Context, which tests your vocabulary and ability to use context clues. Here are some tips:

1. Read the entire passage carefully before trying to answer the question. The context around the word is key!

2. Try to come up with your own word for the blank before looking at the answer choices. What word would fit logically and match the tone of the passage?

3. Use process of elimination. Cross out any choices that definitely don't fit, then compare the remaining options.

4. Watch out for words that sort of fit but have the wrong connotation or degree of intensity for the context.

5. If you're really stuck between two choices, re-read the sentence with each word plugged in. Which sounds better and matches the surrounding sentences?

 Building Your Vocabulary

Of course, the best way to do well on vocabulary questions is to build a robust vocabulary! Here are some fun and effective ways to learn new words:

- Read widely, especially non-fiction articles on science, social studies and current events

- Play word games like Scrabble, Boggle, or crossword puzzles

- Use flashcards or an app like Quizlet to quiz yourself

- Make up silly stories or mnemonics to memorize word meanings

- Watch YouTube videos that teach SAT vocabulary, like the ones from The Test Advantage

 Practice, Practice, Practice!

The most important key to DSAT success is realistic, timed practice. Here are the best resources:

- CollegeBoard's Official DSAT Practice on Khan Academy (free!)

- Erica Meltzer's The Critical Reader: The Complete Guide to SAT Reading, 5th Edition

- CollegePanda's SAT Vocabulary: Advanced Guide with 1000+ Words

- Practice tests from your school, tutor, or test prep company

- The TTA offers the most authentic practice tests in the market. Don’t delay, join the TTA today (not AI created, lol).

When practicing, focus on staying calm, working efficiently, and applying the strategies you've learned. With hard work and smart prep, you've got this!

What should I do if I don't know a word in a question?

Chiell! There are always context clues to help you. Try these steps:

1. Identify context clues in the passage, like synonyms, antonyms, examples, or explanations

2. Make an educated guess about the general meaning of the word based on the clues

3. Plug your guess into the answer choices and see which one fits best

4. If you're still unsure, eliminate any choices that definitely don't work

5. Make your best guess from the remaining options and move on. Don't dwell!

Remember, it's okay if you don't know every single word. The DSAT is designed to have some questions that are very challenging. Just do your best and stay confident! With solid vocab knowledge and smart test-taking strategies, you can rock the Digital SAT.
