EST exam | Egyptian scholastic test | Mr. Osama Ahmad | The Test Advantage

What is the EST Test?

The EST test, crucial for college readiness, comprises two sections: Literacy and Math. It assesses essential skills in reading, writing, vocabulary, and math, tailored for students in Egypt, KSA, and the UAE.

Advantages of the EST Test

The EST offers a unique advantage over the Digital SAT and ACT by measuring Egyptian students against a local benchmark. Here’s why the EST stands out:

- Frequency of Testing: It’s conducted five times a year – in January, March, May, August, and November – offering ample opportunities to improve scores.

- Cost-Effectiveness: Priced at 7800 EGP per section, it's more affordable than the ACT (185 usd).

- Wide Acceptance: Recognized by numerous universities in Egypt and accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Is the EST Test Difficult?

While challenging, the EST test is manageable. Its difficulty hinges on:

- Preparation: Thorough practice and material review can significantly boost your performance.

- Test-Taking Strategies: Effective time management and smart guessing techniques can improve scores.

- Motivation and Confidence: A positive mindset can reduce test-day stress and anxiety.

Calculator Guidelines for the EST Math Section

Navigating the calculator policy for the EST Math section is crucial:

- Permitted Calculators: Acceptable models include scientific or graphing calculators without QWERTY keyboards, stylus, wireless/Bluetooth capabilities, cameras, microphones, or stored programs/documents. Examples include Casio fx-82MS, Casio fx-991ES, TI-81, and TI-83.

- Prohibited Calculators: Avoid models like Casio fx-9860GII, Casio ClassPad 330, TI-Nspire CX, and TI-Nspire CAS. Always confirm with your test center beforehand.

Understanding the EST Scoring Scale

The EST test scores each section (English and Math) on a 200-800 scale. Your total score is the aggregate of these two sections. For instance, scoring 600 in English and 700 in Math gives you a total score of 1300.

Generally speaking, understanding how the EST is scored is nearly impossible since curves and raw scores are never released. However, the biggest mistakes many students make is making SAT scores equal to EST, which is far from the truth.

Target Scores for Competitive University Admissions

Aiming high is key; competitive universities often look for scores of at least 600 in each section. The average score for Egyptian students typically hovers around 500 per section.

Question-to-Score Conversion: A General Overview

The number of correct answers needed for a specific score varies based on the difficulty of your test version. Generally, harder questions mean fewer correct answers are needed for a high score, and vice versa. However, as a rule of thumb, use the following guidelines to estimate the number of correct answers required for a desired score in each section:

- If you score between 30-50 percent on TTA tests, expect a range of 420-520.

- If you score between 60-70 percent on TTA tests, expect a range of 550-650.

- If you score 80-90 precent, expect a score range of 650-700

- If you score above 90 precent, expect above a 700.
