Note: Concordance tables for the ACT Composite were derived from concordances of the ACT sum score.
SAT vs ACT: which should you take
Both the SAT and the ACT are accepted by essentially all US colleges and universities, and most schools do not prefer one test over the other. The two tests differ mainly in format: the Digital SAT is a shorter, section-adaptive test delivered on the Bluebook app, while the ACT is a longer, fixed-form test that also includes a dedicated Science section. Some students find the ACT's more straightforward, linear format easier to plan for, while others prefer the Digital SAT's shorter length and on-screen tools. Taking a full practice test of each is the most reliable way to see which format suits you.
Does the chart work for the digital SAT and the enhanced ACT
The concordance tables on this page are still the tables College Board and ACT released in 2018. ACT states that these concordance tables are not updated annually, so the 2018 tables remain the current official reference for comparing SAT and ACT scores. Since September 2025, ACT has offered an Enhanced ACT, whose Composite score is calculated from the English, Math, and Reading test scores. College Board cautions that a concorded score is not a prediction of how a student would perform on the other test, and that concordance should not be applied to superscores, averages, or score ranges, only to a single official SAT total or ACT Composite score. Use this chart as a general reference for the current tests, not as an exact substitute for either score.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert my SAT score to an ACT score?
Find your SAT total score in Table A1 below, or enter it into the calculator above. Each SAT total score concords to a single ACT Composite score using the official 2018 College Board and ACT concordance tables. For example, an SAT total of 1200 concords to an ACT Composite of 25.
Is the SAT to ACT conversion chart official?
Yes. The numbers on this page come from the concordance tables College Board and ACT released jointly in 2018, parsed directly from the official College Board workbook. This page does not create its own conversion formula.
Does this chart work for the current Digital SAT and the Enhanced ACT?
The concordance tables themselves are still the 2018 tables; College Board and ACT have not published new tables since. ACT states these concordance tables are not updated annually. The Enhanced ACT, in effect since September 2025, reports a Composite score from English, Math, and Reading. Use the 2018 tables as a general reference, not a precise prediction, for either the Digital SAT or the Enhanced ACT.
What does the asterisk (*) mean on the conversion tables?
An asterisk marks the SAT score College Board and ACT recommend using when a single score point comparison is needed, per the official footnote on the concordance tables.
Can I use this chart to compare a superscore or an average score?
No. College Board cautions that a concorded score is not a prediction of how a student would actually score on the other test, and that concordance tables should not be applied to superscores, means, or score ranges. Use a single official SAT total or ACT Composite score.
