Digital SAT Practice Test 1 is adaptive between modules, not question by question. Your performance in the first module helps decide which second module you get. College Board explains that the second module is tailored to how you did in the first. It does not publish a simple "get this many right" cutoff for students to use.
So do not try to guess your route from one hard word or one easy grammar question. Use Bluebook's official score and answer review for the form you took. This guide explains how the routing works. It then uses two real SAT-style questions from our bank, one from each module of the same test, to show how one skill can show up in both modules.
How the Digital SAT adaptive branch works
- You complete the first Reading and Writing module.
- The testing system scores that module.
- You get a second Reading and Writing module tailored to that score.
- Math follows its own two-module adaptive process.
The key word is between. A correct answer early in Module 1 does not change the next question right away. The route changes after the module is complete.
What you should not infer
A single question cannot prove which route you got. Both modules can include familiar and unfamiliar topics, short and long passages, and easier or harder moments. Also, do not trust a guessed raw-score cutoff. College Board has not published an official cutoff for that form, so a number shared in a forum is still a guess.
The real goal is not to label your branch. It is to find the skills that caused your misses and train them before the next test.
One skill, two modules: real examples
Both questions below come from the same two-module SAT English test in our bank. Both also appear in our March 2024 SAT Reading and Writing question bank. Seeing one skill in both modules is useful for review. It does not tell you anything about an official Bluebook cutoff, and it does not label either module as the harder or easier branch.
Module 1 example
The passage describes portable electronics with batteries that cannot easily be changed. Once the original batteries fail, new ones cannot be put in, and the devices are often thrown away. The question asks for the most logical and precise word to fill the blank.
The choices are A. rated, B. invented, C. prevented and D. replaced. The correct answer is D, replaced. The next sentence defines the missing idea: new batteries cannot be put in. That makes replaced the precise choice.
Module 2 example
This passage says that digging up a dilophosaur fossil may take weeks or months of hard, physically tiring work. The question asks for the word that completes the sentence most precisely.
The choices are A. cheap, B. common, C. rapid and D. difficult. The correct answer is D, difficult. The words after the comma describe the process as hard work, which is what difficult means.
Both items test the same move. Use the explanation around the blank to predict a simple word before you read the choices. Seeing them in separate modules helps you review, but how hard they feel cannot tell you which route you got.
How to prepare for the second module
Give every first-module question careful attention, but do not let worry about the branch wreck your pacing. Answer the question in front of you. Mark items you are unsure of, return if time is left, and review mistakes by skill afterward.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Digital SAT adaptive after every question?
No. It is multistage adaptive. The route changes between modules based on performance in the first module, not after each individual question.
How many correct answers guarantee the harder second module?
College Board's public student guidance does not provide a simple guaranteed cutoff for each form, so a specific number should not be presented as official.
What are the answers to the two example questions?
In the Module 1 battery question, the answer is D, replaced, because new batteries cannot be put in. In the Module 2 fossil question, the answer is D, difficult, because the digging takes weeks or months of hard, physically tiring work.
