Bluebook has eight full-length SAT practice tests, numbered Test 4 through Test 11. College Board's practice page lists those eight tests and says you can take the same tests free in Bluebook. Each one is adaptive, timed and scored. Bluebook also has a short, untimed test preview that gives no score.
After each Bluebook test, Khan Academy offers a free walk-through of every question. Our guide to Khan Academy SAT practice tests shows how to open it.

Eight full-length SAT tests. College Board's paper practice test page lists SAT Practice Tests 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. It then says, "you can take the same practice tests for free in Bluebook". We checked the page on October 13, 2026.
College Board's official SAT practice resources:
| Official resource | How many | Scored? | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full-length SAT practice tests | 8 (Tests 4 to 11) | Yes, in My Practice | Bluebook app |
| Test preview | 1 short set of questions | No score, no feedback | Bluebook app |
| Paper (nonadaptive) versions | Same 8 tests as PDFs | You score them with a guide | College Board website |
| Tailored Practice | A custom set after each test | Practice only | My Practice |
| Student Question Bank | "Thousands" of official questions | Practice only | My Practice |
The Bluebook practice test page describes the preview this way: "You won't receive scores or any feedback on your answers". The full-length tests are different. College Board says they "are scored" once you finish them in Bluebook.
Why do the Bluebook tests start at Test 4?
The first three tests are no longer listed. A College Board research report from May 2025 says that when the study was done, students had "SAT practice tests numbered 1 through 6". Today the paper page starts at Test 4. Tests 1, 2 and 3 are no longer on the list.
This matters if you read old advice. Some prep guides still say Bluebook has seven tests. College Board's own list now shows eight.
Is a new Bluebook practice test coming?
College Board has not announced a Test 12 on the pages we checked. Its New and Updated Features page lists two practice changes:
- Spring 2026: "A new full-length SAT practice test will be available in Bluebook".
- Fall 2026: "New full-length practice tests for PSAT assessments are available in Bluebook".
The fall 2026 update added PSAT tests. It did not add an SAT test. If College Board adds one, it will show up under Practice and Prepare in the app.

What does each Bluebook practice test give you?
Each test works like the real SAT, with two small differences. College Board says the tests "are timed like a real test, except you can move forward from one section to the next before time expires". You can also pause a practice test and come back later, per College Board's How to Use Bluebook Practice Tests page.
After you finish, your results go to My Practice. College Board's My Practice 101 page lists what you get:
- Your scores. Every Bluebook practice score, newest first.
- Score Details. Every question, the correct answer, your answer and a Review button.
- Tailored Practice. A set of questions from the Student Question Bank, based on how you did.
- A Khan Academy review course. College Board says each official SAT practice test has one.
- A practice score report. A summary you can download and share with a counselor.
The review step is where most of the points come from. Our guide on how to review your Bluebook mistakes walks through it.
How many Bluebook practice tests should you take?
Take at least two, and review each one in full. College Board's own research links more tests with higher scores. Its May 2025 study found that students who finished 1, 2, and 3 or more full-length Bluebook tests scored about 25, 45 and 60 points higher than similar students who took none.
Two cautions about that study:
- It shows a link, not proof that the tests caused the gain.
- The sample was juniors who took the SAT at school in March 2024. Their average SAT score was 1160.
College Board's parent FAQ on SAT practice suggests timing for two tests. Take the first "a couple months" before the SAT. Take the second "about two weeks before test day".
You can retake a test. College Board's educator practice page says, "There is no limit to the number of times a student can take any practice test". But a second try on the same test measures memory as much as skill. Count only your first score on each test.
Are some of the eight harder than others? Students argue about it a lot. We cover what College Board says, and what students report, in are Bluebook practice tests harder than the real SAT.

What comes next after you finish all eight?
Move from full tests to targeted practice, then add fresh full-length tests. Use this order.
- Use College Board's free tools first. Run Tailored Practice after each test. Then filter the Student Question Bank by skill and difficulty. College Board says it has "thousands of official practice questions".
- Practice by test month. The Test Advantage has 43 Digital SAT question banks: 22 Reading and Writing and 21 Math. Each bank is named for a past SAT month, from March 2024 through October 2026. The catalog says the banks are built from real College Board test administrations. The newest are the October 2026 Reading and Writing bank and the October 2026 Math bank.
- Start with the free bank. The June 2026 Reading and Writing Question Bank is free with an account.
- Take fresh adaptive tests. The Test Advantage has 34 adaptive tests: 18 Reading and Writing and 16 Math. They use the real test's module sizes and times: 27 questions in 32 minutes per Reading and Writing module, and 22 questions in 35 minutes per Math module. Create a free account to take one full-length adaptive test free.
- Fix one skill at a time. When a mistake keeps coming back, practice that skill in the Digital SAT question banks. Only the June 2026 Reading and Writing bank is free; the others are paid.
You can see every bank and test in one place on the Digital SAT practice test catalog. The Test Advantage is not affiliated with College Board, and its banks are not official College Board tests.
| Need | Official option | The Test Advantage option |
|---|---|---|
| A full adaptive test | 8 Bluebook tests (4 to 11) | 34 adaptive tests, 1 free per account |
| More questions on a weak skill | Student Question Bank, Tailored Practice | 43 question banks by test month, free lesson notes and Targeted Practice |
| Explanations for each test | Review button, Khan Academy course | Walkthrough blogs for Tests 5 to 10 |

How we built this page
Verified 2026-10-13. Official facts come from College Board pages fetched that day: the paper practice test page, the Bluebook practice test page, How to Use Bluebook Practice Tests, My Practice 101, the Bluebook New and Updated Features page, the parent and educator practice pages, and the May 2025 research report. The Test Advantage numbers (43 question banks, 34 adaptive tests, the free bank and the free adaptive test) come from read-only database queries run the same day. We did not count any test College Board has not listed.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many practice tests does Bluebook have in 2026?
Eight full-length SAT practice tests, numbered 4 through 11. College Board's paper practice test page lists those eight and says you can take the same tests free in Bluebook. Bluebook also has an untimed test preview that gives no score. We checked College Board's pages on October 13, 2026.
Why do the Bluebook tests start at Test 4?
Tests 1, 2 and 3 are no longer listed. A May 2025 College Board research report says students then had SAT practice tests numbered 1 through 6. College Board's current list starts at Test 4 and runs through Test 11.
Is a new Bluebook practice test coming?
College Board has not announced a Test 12 on the pages we checked. Its New and Updated Features page lists "a new full-length SAT practice test" as a spring 2026 change, and says the fall 2026 update added new full-length practice tests for PSAT assessments, not the SAT.
How many Bluebook practice tests should you take?
At least two, with full review. College Board's May 2025 study found students who finished 1, 2, and 3 or more Bluebook tests scored about 25, 45 and 60 points higher than similar students who took none. That is a link, not proof of cause. College Board suggests one test a couple of months out and one about two weeks before the SAT.
What comes next after you finish all eight?
Use Tailored Practice and the Student Question Bank in My Practice first. Then work question banks sorted by SAT test month and take fresh adaptive tests. The Test Advantage has 43 Digital SAT question banks and 34 adaptive tests, and a free account includes one full-length adaptive test.
