Short answer: College Board has released 8 official digital SAT practice tests, numbered Practice Test 4 through Practice Test 11. You can take all of them free in the Bluebook app, where they are adaptive like the real test. College Board also posts each one as a free PDF with a scoring guide and answer explanations.
The official released SAT practice tests
| Test | In Bluebook (adaptive) | Paper PDF (non-adaptive) |
|---|---|---|
| Practice Tests 4 to 11 | Yes, free | Yes, free, with scoring guide and answer explanations |
There is no Practice Test 1, 2 or 3 on College Board’s current list. The numbering starts at 4.
Bluebook or PDF: which should you use?
College Board recommends taking at least one adaptive practice test in Bluebook before test day. The PDF versions are not adaptive, so College Board recommends them mainly for students who will test on paper with accommodations. In Bluebook, your Module 1 result changes how hard Module 2 is, just like on test day. A PDF cannot do that.
The PDFs are still useful for review. Each bundle has three files:
- The test: a printable, full-length PDF.
- Scoring guide: an answer key plus directions to calculate your section and total scores.
- Answer explanations: why each right answer is right and why each wrong choice is wrong.
How to use 8 tests without wasting them
Eight tests go fast. Plan when you will use each one:
- Test 1 in your plan: a baseline in Bluebook before you start studying.
- Tests 2 to 6: checkpoints every few weeks, after you have worked on your weak skills.
- Last 2 tests: save them for the final two weeks, to rehearse test day.
- Review every miss. Bluebook links you to answer explanations after each test.
When you run out of official tests
- More full-length tests: free full-length practice tests on The Test Advantage, in the two-module format with every answer explained.
- Practice by skill: Targeted Practice builds sets from the skills you miss.
- Hard questions: hard SAT math and hard SAT English practice.
- Khan Academy: free skill courses. See what Khan Academy offers now.
