To prep for Digital SAT Math, learn the formulas the reference sheet leaves out, get fast with the built-in Desmos calculator, and practice real questions under the real timing. This page links The Test Advantage's best guide for each of those steps. Each link has one line on what you get, so you can go straight to what you need.
The Math section in one line: 44 questions in two modules of 35 minutes each, 70 minutes in all. That is about 1 minute and 35 seconds per question (College Board: Math specifications).
What is on Digital SAT Math?
Four areas. Algebra and Advanced Math make up most of the test.
| Math area | Share of questions | What it covers | Start here |
|---|---|---|---|
| Algebra | about 35% | Linear equations, linear functions, systems of two equations, linear inequalities | Systems of equations on Desmos |
| Advanced Math | about 35% | Equivalent expressions, quadratics and other nonlinear equations, nonlinear functions | Quadratics on Desmos |
| Problem-Solving and Data Analysis | about 15% | Ratios, rates, percents, units, data, probability, statistics | Regression on Desmos |
| Geometry and Trigonometry | about 15% | Area and volume, lines and triangles, right-triangle trig, circles | Circle equations on Desmos |
The shares and topic lists come from College Board's Math specifications.
Which SAT math formulas do you need?
Bluebook shows a reference sheet on every Math test. It gives you area, volume, circle and right-triangle formulas. It does not give you slope, vertex form, or the quadratic formula. These guides cover what it leaves out.
- SAT math formulas: what the official reference sheet gives you, the 54 formulas it leaves out, and 8 practice questions that use them.
- Product of roots: the c/a shortcut for quadratics, with worked examples.
- Sum of solutions: why the roots add to −b/a, and how to check it on Desmos.
How do you use Desmos on the SAT?
Desmos is built into Bluebook, the app you take the SAT on. College Board says you can use your own approved calculator "or take advantage of the Desmos calculator embedded in Bluebook," and you can switch between graphing and scientific modes at any point (College Board: calculator policy).
- Desmos for the Digital SAT: a practice calculator, an A to Z technique library, and a printable cheat sheet. No login needed.
- How to open the College Board version of Desmos: how it differs from desmos.com, and where to practice.
- Systems of equations on Desmos: type both equations, click where they cross, read the answer.
- Infinitely many solutions: find the missing constant, then check it on Desmos.
- Regression on Desmos: five problems that turn a data table into an equation.
- Quadratics on Desmos: read zeros and the vertex from the graph.
- Vertex form on Desmos: read (h, k) and check it on the graph.
- X- and y-intercepts on Desmos: click the graph to read both.
- Circle equations on Desmos: tangent slopes and arcs, with a Desmos check.
- Trig ratios on Desmos: set up sin, cos or tan first, then let Desmos do the numbers.
- Scientific vs. graphing mode: when to switch, with a worked example for each.

How does the adaptive test change your strategy?
Each section has two modules of equal length. College Board says: "Based on how you perform on the first module, the second module of questions will either be more difficult or less difficult" (College Board: SAT structure). These pages explain what that means for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is Digital SAT Math set up?
The Math section has 44 questions in two modules of 35 minutes each, 70 minutes in all, or about 1 minute and 35 seconds per question. College Board puts it at about 35% Algebra, 35% Advanced Math, 15% Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, and 15% Geometry and Trigonometry.
Can you use Desmos on the Digital SAT?
Yes. A Desmos calculator is built into Bluebook, and you can switch between graphing and scientific modes at any point in the Math section. You may also bring your own approved calculator. The Test Advantage's free Desmos for the Digital SAT page has a practice calculator and a technique library.
Does the SAT give you math formulas?
Yes. Bluebook shows a reference sheet on every Math test. It covers area, volume, circle and right-triangle formulas. It does not include slope, vertex form or the quadratic formula, so you need to know those yourself. The SAT math formulas guide on this site lists what the sheet leaves out.
How does the adaptive SAT change your math strategy?
Each section has two equal-length modules. College Board says the second module is more or less difficult based on how you perform on the first. So practice with full adaptive sections, not just single questions, so the timing and the jump in difficulty feel normal on test day.
Where can I practice Digital SAT Math for free?
Start with 16 free SAT practice questions with answers, the free Desmos practice page, and free SkillDrill math lessons (a free account is needed to start one). A free Test Advantage account also includes one full-length adaptive SAT section with a scaled score.
