To convert an SAT score to an ACT score, use the official 2018 concordance tables from College Board and ACT. A 1600 SAT converts to a 36 ACT, a 1400 to a 31, a 1200 to a 25, and a 1000 to a 19. ACT says these tables "compare scores but do not predict performance on the other test".
The full SAT to ACT conversion chart is below, copied from the official tables and checked line by line. Each SAT score from 1000 to 1600 links to its own page with nearby scores. If you are still choosing a test, start with our ACT vs SAT comparison. To see which test suits you, take a timed practice test from the practice test catalog.

Look up your total, then read across. A few examples:
- A 1500 SAT converts to a 34 ACT.
- A 1400 SAT converts to a 31 ACT.
- A 1300 SAT converts to a 28 ACT.
- A 1200 SAT converts to a 25 ACT.
- A 1100 SAT converts to a 22 ACT.
Going from ACT to SAT, each ACT score covers a range of SAT scores. The official tables pick one SAT score in that range for a single-number comparison. For a 34 ACT, the range is 1490 to 1520, and the single score is 1500. Our ACT to SAT conversion chart covers that direction in full, and the 34 ACT to SAT page shows one example.
What is the SAT Math to ACT Math conversion?

Is the 2018 chart still right for the digital SAT?
Yes, based on current guidance from both organizations. College Board says digital SAT scores carry the same meaning as paper SAT scores, and ACT says the current concordance can still be used (see the next section). College Board's scoring page gives an example: "a score of 1050 on the digital SAT would correspond to and carry the same meaning as a score of 1050 on the paper and pencil SAT".

A College Board research summary goes further. After two concordance studies, it confirms "a straight-line concordance between our paper-based and digital assessment scores". College Board says the goal was to align the two versions "so users wouldn't need to use a table to compare scores".
Does the chart work for the enhanced ACT?
Yes, for now. ACT's 2025 guidance, Interpreting Scores on the Enhanced ACT, says "the current ACT-SAT concordance can continue to be used". It recommends using it to align ACT Composite with SAT Total, ACT math with SAT math, and ACT English plus reading with SAT Reading and Writing.
ACT also says "formal progress on updating the concordance has not yet begun". An update would need data from students who took both the enhanced ACT and the digital SAT. ACT's concordance page adds that the latest version "was released in 2018 and is not updated annually".
How were the official tables made?
College Board and ACT matched scores with the same percentile rank among students who took both tests. The guide says the data came from 589,753 students who graduated in 2017. They took the ACT and the then-new SAT between February 2016 (ACT) or March 2016 (SAT) and June 2017. Researchers weighted the sample to reflect all students likely to take either test.
The 2018 tables replaced the 2016 version. The guide calls them "the only official concordance tables".
What can the SAT to ACT chart not tell you?
A converted score is a comparison, not a prediction. College Board's SAT and ACT comparison page lists these limits:
- "A concorded score isn't a perfect prediction of how a student would perform on the other test".
- Do not use the tables to convert group numbers such as a mean, a median or a score range.
- Do not combine SAT and ACT section scores into one superscore.
- Use more than one measure when making a decision.
So a 1400 SAT and a 31 ACT sit at about the same rank. That does not mean you would score a 31 if you sat the ACT tomorrow. To see where an SAT score ranks on its own, use our SAT percentiles lookup or check whether a 1400 is a good SAT score.
Should you take the SAT or the ACT?
Take a timed practice test of each, convert both scores with the chart above, and pick the test where you rank higher. Our ACT vs SAT guide compares the two tests section by section.

How we built this page
Verified 2026-10-13. The SAT Total to ACT Composite table comes from ACT's 2018 ACT/SAT Concordance Tables PDF. We checked all 102 rows against College Board's Guide to the 2018 ACT/SAT Concordance and found no differences. The Math table comes from Tables B1 and B2 in the same guide. Digital SAT and enhanced ACT guidance comes from College Board's scoring page and research summary and from ACT's 2025 guidance, all fetched that day. We also checked that all 61 of our SAT to ACT score pages match the official table. The Test Advantage numbers come from read-only database queries run the same day.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you use the SAT to ACT conversion?
Find your SAT total in the official 2018 concordance table and read across. Examples: 1600 SAT = 36 ACT, 1500 = 34, 1400 = 31, 1300 = 28, 1200 = 25, 1100 = 22 and 1000 = 19. The full table runs from 1600 down to 590 on the SAT and from 36 down to 9 on the ACT.
Is the 2018 chart still right for the digital SAT?
Yes. College Board says a digital SAT score carries the same meaning as the same paper SAT score, and it confirmed a straight-line concordance between paper and digital scores. ACT's 2025 guidance says the current ACT-SAT concordance can continue to be used.
Does the chart work for the enhanced ACT?
Yes, for now. ACT's 2025 guidance, Interpreting Scores on the Enhanced ACT, says the current ACT-SAT concordance can continue to be used. It also says formal work on updating the concordance has not begun, and an update would need data from students who took both the enhanced ACT and the digital SAT.
What is the SAT Math to ACT Math conversion?
The official Table B1 matches SAT Math to ACT Math. For example, 800 SAT Math = 36 ACT Math, 700 = 30, 600 = 25 and 500 = 18. The table runs down to 260 on SAT Math (10 on ACT Math).
What can the SAT to ACT chart not tell you?
It cannot predict your score on the other test. College Board says a concorded score is not a perfect prediction, that the tables should not be used to convert a mean, median or score range, and that SAT and ACT section scores should not be combined into one superscore.
