That came to 1,588 unique posts and comments from 836 different Reddit accounts. 309 different students stated their own September total. This page is what those 309 scores show.

Short answer: the median reported score was 1480. The middle half of students landed between 1390 and 1520, and the single most common score was 1510. Math beat Reading and Writing for 83 of the 106 students who posted both sections (78%). The median Math score was 770 and the median Reading and Writing score was 710. Bluebook Practice Test 11 was a decent predictor: across 83 students who posted both numbers, the real score came in a median of 10 points above PT11. Of 69 students who compared against an earlier sitting, 53 went up. The sample is self-selected and skews high, so read it as a Reddit snapshot, not as a national curve. College Board's official percentiles are further down the page.

When were September 2026 SAT scores released?

College Board's published schedule lists student release for the September 12, 2026 SAT on Friday, September 25 and educator release on Monday, September 28. Students on r/Sat reported the first scores landing around 6:00 to 7:00 am Eastern on Friday, with a second batch in the afternoon. A long note at the top of the release thread said the majority of scores arrive in the two Friday batches, a notable share on Saturday or Sunday, and that students whose scores are expected noticeably later get an email saying so. If yours is late, check your spam folder for that delay notice before you panic.

Why is my September SAT score not out yet?

Scores are released in batches, and the same note in the release thread pointed out that results from the same test center, in the same country, with similar scores, come out at different times. A friend seeing a score at 7 am tells you nothing about yours. If Saturday passes with nothing and no delay email, contact College Board through your student account. Several r/Sat posts on release night were titled "SAT score delay" or "my score still hasn't been released," so you are not alone.

1000 to 109021%47th
Under 100041%Below 47th

Three things stand out. First, the 1500 to 1540 band alone holds a third of the sample. Second, only 29 of 309 students (9%) reported anything under 1300, even though, by College Board's user percentiles, a 1300 already sits at the 85th percentile. Third, the median Reddit score of 1480 sits at the 97th percentile of SAT takers. The sample is far above the national spread, which fits what anyone who reads r/Sat already suspects: students with high scores are the ones who post. That is why r/Sat can make a 1450 feel ordinary when it is not.

What percentile is my September 2026 SAT score?

Your score report shows your percentile. If you want a quick check first, here is College Board's published percentile table for selected total scores. "Nationally representative" compares you with all US 11th and 12th graders, including students who never take the SAT. "User group" compares you with actual SAT takers from the last three graduating classes, which is the more demanding comparison.

So is 1400 a good SAT score? At the 93rd user percentile, yes, by any national standard. Is 1300 good? It beats 85% of SAT takers. Whether a score is good enough is a different question. That depends on the middle 50% range at the colleges on your list, and how Digital SAT scores affect admissions in 2026 walks through how to read those ranges.

Math versus Reading and Writing: the September split

106 students posted both section scores. For 83 of them (78%), Math was the higher section. Reading and Writing was higher for 21, and two had identical sections. The typical Math lead was 40 points.

SectionStudents reportingMedianMiddle halfScored 750+Scored under 700Perfect 800
Math113770720 to 79073 (65%)14 (12%)7
Reading and Writing111710680 to 75030 (27%)37 (33%)0

Not one student in the sample posted an 800 in Reading and Writing. Seven posted an 800 in Math. One in three Reading and Writing scores was under 700, against one in eight for Math.

There is a percentile wrinkle worth knowing. On College Board's section tables, a 710 in Reading and Writing is the 94th user percentile, while a 770 in Math is the 97th. So the 60-point gap between the medians shrinks to three percentile points. A 710 Reading and Writing score is rarer than it feels on r/Sat.

What students wrote:

  • "1500 from 1440 last time. 790 math 710 rw. Lock in for English on Oct incoming."
  • "I got 1340 and I'm gonna cry I'm aiming for over 1500 and I only have 2 chances left (RW 580 and a Math 760)."
  • "Got 620 English and 780 math on the September test. Should I just lock in for English for the October test?"
  • "1460. only went up 10 points from august, really disappointed bc i went up 70 points for math (710 to 780) but dropped 60 for r&w (740 to 680)."

This matches what the same students said on test day, and what tutors who sat the test reported: Reading and Writing Module 2 was dense and slow, and rhetorical synthesis questions (the "notes" questions) took longer than usual. Module 1 routes you into an easier or harder Module 2, so a Module 2 that felt easy can mean you were routed down. The September 12 Reading and Writing recap walks through the vocabulary that marked the harder branch.

Is Bluebook Practice Test 11 accurate? 83 students compared

One of the busiest threads after release (125 comments) asked students to post their Bluebook Practice Test 11 score next to their real September score. 83 students gave both numbers.

Real September score compared with PT11Students
60+ points higher than PT1122
10 to 50 points higher22
Exactly the same10
10 to 50 points lower16
60+ points lower13

The median PT11 score was 1480 and the median real score was 1500. The typical miss in either direction was 50 points, and 48 of 83 students (58%) landed within 50 points of their PT11 score. So PT11 is a useful estimate, not a promise.

The split by level is the more useful finding. Students who scored under 1500 on PT11 (48 of them) typically did better on the real test, by a median of 45 points. Students who scored 1500 or higher on PT11 (35 of them) typically did slightly worse, by a median of 10 points. Near the top of the scale there is simply less room to go up.

Posted pairs, verbatim: "1480 on practice 11, 1530 on sept." "1520 pt 11 1530 real." "1520 bb 11 1490 real so mad." "1210 pt.11 and 1270 actual test." "1350 vs 1520 i'm so happyyyyy."

A practical note: if you have already taken PT11 more than once, the number means less. Students remember questions. Fresh full-length practice, like The Test Advantage's adaptive Digital SAT practice tests, gives you a number you can trust. The Digital SAT practice tests guide covers how to use the official Bluebook forms without burning them.

Expected vs actual: did students predict their scores?

43 students posted both what they expected and what they got. 17 beat their own prediction, 3 hit it exactly, and 23 fell short. The median result was 10 points below expectation, and 26 of the 43 were within 50 points. Eleven were off by 50 or more on the low side, and eleven were off by 50 or more on the high side. Students are about as likely to underestimate a good day as to overestimate a bad one.

  • "expected a 1510 and got a 1510 (710rw/800m)"
  • "I did better, i was expecting 1200 but i got 1330"
  • "I was consistently getting around 1570 on practice tests. And I guessed that I got around a 1530 on this one, but I got 1490"
  • "1490 when I thought I'd get 1550"

Who went up, who went down from a previous SAT

69 students compared September with an earlier real SAT. 53 went up, 6 stayed the same, and 10 went down. The median change was +60 points, and 16 students gained 100 points or more. Only 4 dropped by 50 or more. Among the 23 who were comparing specifically with the August 22, 2026 SAT, just three weeks earlier, the median gain was smaller at +20 (16 up, 4 same, 3 down). Three weeks is not much study time.

  • "1420 —> 1530. Finally done with the SAT"
  • "went from 1340 junior year to 1540 senior year"
  • "1290 -> 1440 over a 2 month period. reading and math both 720."
  • "Score went down from 1330 to 1280, math huge decrease from August."
  • "i went from 1510 (760 rw 750 m) to 1430 (710 rw 720 m)"

The drops got more attention than the gains. A standalone r/Sat post titled "did anyone else do worse than expected?" had 143 upvotes and 105 comments by September 26. Its opening line: "I expected at least a 1450+. I felt like i did good in math like 770 at least. in practice tests i usually got around 1470." Across the full sample, though, gains outnumbered drops more than five to one.

Was the September 2026 SAT curve harsh?

No one in the threads posted a raw-to-scaled conversion for this administration, so there is no verified curve table to show you. We found 16 comments that talked about the curve or about scoring feeling off, and they pointed both ways. Some students said Math was the easiest they had seen and still scored high. Others were surprised: one post titled "The curve was wild or wtf happened?" described expecting 740+ in Math and getting a 700. Another student wrote, "for math, thought I only did 1-2 question atmost 3 wrong but got 720."

Here is why those experiences can both be true. The Digital SAT is not curved against the other students in the room. College Board describes it as a multistage adaptive test scored with item response theory: your score depends on which questions you got right or wrong, how hard those questions were, and the probability that you guessed. Two students with the same number of correct answers can get different scores because they answered different questions, so a count of your own mistakes is not enough to predict your score. If you want to see how many more correct answers a target score needs, run it through the Digital SAT score calculator.

First-time test takers vs retakers

29 students said September was their first SAT. Their median was 1480, and 12 of the 29 scored 1500 or higher. 73 students were retaking, and their median was 1470. On Reddit, at least, first attempts were not a disadvantage.

  • "1550 first try!"
  • "Expected: 1500-1540 Actual: 1510 (750 R&W, 760 Math) Not bad for the first take!"
  • "hello i got a 1090 on my first attempt. extremely dissapointed."

International students: what they reported

Only six students with a September score identified themselves as international, so there is no separate international distribution to report. Their median was 1505. Of the four who gave both sections, three had Math ahead of Reading and Writing, the same shape as the US sample.

  • "I got 1430 (710EBRW/720math). Can it be enough for an international (uzbek) student (from a public school) to shoot for full-rides?"
  • "Took the SAT for the first time in September. I got a 1480 (800 math and 680 R&W). I'm an international currently in 11th grade."
  • "1550 international (Canada), 790 math, looking to apply for eng. in US. Should I retake for 800?"
  • "1330. 690 rw, 640 maths ... mind you last few months I completely left my rw and only practiced my maths. As an intl I expected my maths to be stronger."

On test day, the top international comment was about timing: "I had like 18-20 min left after finishing math module 1, but ran out of time in module 2." Pacing on the harder Module 2 is the international thread's recurring theme.

What students plan to do next

89 students said what they would do next. 29 were already registered for October 3, 10 named November 7, 5 named December 5, and 13 said they would retake without naming a date. 25 said they were done, and 7 were undecided. If you are not already registered for October, you have missed it: late registration for October 3 closed on September 22, three days before scores came out. November 7 is the first date you can choose with your score report in hand (register by October 23).

The five problems students named, and what to do about each

1. "I scored below my practice tests"

In the PT11 data above, 29 of 83 students scored lower on the real test than on PT11, and 13 of them by 60 points or more. Students who retake the same Bluebook forms remember questions, and their practice score drifts above their true level. The fix is fresh, full-length, adaptive practice where Module 2 routes on your Module 1 result the way the real test does. The Test Advantage's Digital SAT practice tests are full-length and adaptive, and the score report shows which module you were routed into, so a practice score means something.

2. "Math is fine, Reading and Writing will not move"

78% of split scores in the sample had this shape, and a third of Reading and Writing scores were under 700. Reading and Writing on the Digital SAT is a vocabulary and logic test with short passages, and it rewards practicing by question type rather than reading more. The October 2026 English question bank is organized by the College Board domains (Information and Ideas, Craft and Structure, Expression of Ideas, Standard English Conventions) so a 680 Reading and Writing student can work the two domains that cost the points instead of redoing whole tests. The September 2026 vocabulary list covers the words that marked the harder module this month.

3. "I ran out of time on Module 2"

Module 2 on the harder branch is where international students lost time, and tutors who sat the September test said the same about Reading and Writing Module 2. Timed practice by module, with the clock visible and a per-question time log afterward, is the only way to fix pacing. Every practice test on The Test Advantage records time per question so you can see which question types eat your minutes.

4. "Where can I check my September answers?"

Asked repeatedly in the international thread. The recalled questions from both administrations are worked here: September 2026 SAT Math answers, September 2026 SAT Reading and Writing answers, the US Math Reddit thread solved, and the US Reading and Writing thread solved.

5. "Do I retake in November or December?"

Before you register, do three things. Read the section breakdown in your score report, not just the total. Run your target through the Digital SAT score calculator to see how many more correct answers the jump needs. Then read how Digital SAT scores affect admissions in 2026 so the retake decision is about a real cutoff, not a Reddit mood. The retake data here is encouraging: 53 of 69 students who compared sittings went up, with a median gain of 60 points. Students in the 1200s and 1300s have a structured path in the 1200 to 1300 study plan. Students chasing 1500 can compare options in best SAT prep to score 1500.

How to use the six weeks before November 7

  1. Diagnose first. Take one full-length adaptive Digital SAT practice test cold. Compare the section split to your September report. If they match, the September score was real. If practice is 60+ points higher, your practice forms are stale.
  2. Drill the weaker section by domain. For most students in this sample that means Reading and Writing. Two domains, twenty minutes a day, with explanations for every miss.
  3. Do timed Module 2 sets. Practice the harder branch under the clock. The goal is finishing with two minutes to spare, not speed for its own sake.
  4. Retest every two weeks. Three full-length tests between now and November 7 is enough to see the trend. More than that and you are practicing fatigue.

When were September 2026 SAT scores released?

Student scores for the September 12, 2026 SAT were released starting Friday, September 25, 2026, per College Board's published schedule. Educator access opened September 28. Scores arrived in batches through the weekend.

What was the average September 2026 SAT score on Reddit?

Across 309 r/Sat students who posted their own September total, the median was 1480 and the mean was about 1441. The most common single score was 1510. This is a self-selected sample that skews far above the national average; 1480 is a 97th percentile score among SAT takers.

Is 1500 a good score on the September 2026 SAT?

Yes. A 1500 is the 97th percentile among SAT takers and the 99th nationally, per College Board. On r/Sat it looked ordinary because 127 of 309 posters reported 1500 or higher, but that group is self-selected. Whether it is enough depends on the schools on your list.

Is 1400 a good SAT score?

A 1400 is the 93rd percentile among SAT takers and the 97th nationally. In the Reddit sample, 229 of 309 students (74%) scored 1400 or higher, which again says more about who posts than about the test.

Is Bluebook Practice Test 11 accurate?

Reasonably. Among 83 students who posted both scores, the real September score was a median of 10 points higher than PT11, and 58% were within 50 points. Students under 1500 on PT11 tended to beat it (median +45); students at 1500 or above tended to fall slightly short (median -10).

Why was my September SAT score lower than my practice tests?

Repeated practice forms inflate practice scores because you remember questions. In our data, 29 of 83 students scored below PT11. Fresh full-length adaptive practice closes the gap.

Was there a harsh curve on the September 2026 SAT?

No verified curve table was posted, and curve complaints were split: some students found Math easy and scored high, others missed few and were surprised by a lower score. The Digital SAT is scored with item response theory, not curved against other test takers, so the same raw count can produce different scaled scores depending on which questions you saw.

Did students improve from August to September 2026?

Mostly, but modestly. Of 23 students comparing directly with the August 22 SAT, 16 went up, 4 stayed the same, and 3 went down, with a median gain of 20 points. Across all 69 students who compared with any earlier SAT, the median gain was 60 points.

Why is my September SAT score not out yet?

Scores come out in batches from Friday morning through the weekend, and students at the same test center can get them at different times. If your score is expected to be noticeably late, College Board emails you. Check spam, then check your College Board account.

Can I still register for the October 2026 SAT?

No. Regular registration for October 3 closed September 18 and late registration closed September 22. The next open date is November 7, 2026: register by October 23 (late registration October 27), with scores on November 20. After that, December 5 (register by November 20, scores December 18).

Where are the September 2026 SAT answers?

The recalled Math and Reading and Writing questions from the September 12 US and international administrations are worked on The Test Advantage, linked above under problem four.

Method note: we collected the official r/Sat September 12, 2026 score release thread (573 comments per Reddit, read under six comment sort orders and merged) plus 32 other r/Sat threads and 146 r/Sat posts made from September 23 to September 26, 2026. That gave 1,588 unique posts and comments from 836 accounts. Every comment containing a score-like number (765) was labeled for the author's own September total, section scores, previous SAT, practice score, and expectation. Every extracted score was checked against a verbatim quote from the comment. Each student was counted once. We excluded predictions, goals, superscores, scores belonging to someone else, and a handful of comments where the test date or order was unclear. The 309 September totals are high- or medium-confidence labels only. No usernames are reproduced. Release dates and deadlines are from College Board's score release and dates-and-deadlines tables. Percentiles are from College Board's SAT user and nationally representative percentile tables.
