College Board's sending scores page has the official steps. Colleges want scores straight from College Board: it says institutions "will not accept printouts or copies of your score reports." Our SAT test dates page lists every 2026-27 test date, so you can work out your own free-send window. Not sure where to send yet? The free College Finder matches colleges to your SAT score and GPA.

You send SAT scores online in about five steps. These are the steps for a weekend SAT:
- Sign in to your College Board account and go to the Send SAT Scores page. If a fee waiver message appears and does not apply to you, ignore it.
- Search for each college or scholarship program by name or by code. College Board points to BigFuture's college search for codes.
- Add the schools to your list and click Continue.
- For each school, choose to send all your scores or only some test dates. You will see each school's score policy as you choose.
- Review your order and check out.
You cannot mix sections from different days. College Board says you can't send "your Math section score from one test day and your Reading and Writing section score from another." You pick whole test dates. Colleges that superscore then combine your best section scores on their end.
How much does it cost to send SAT scores?
Your first 4 reports per weekend test are free if you order them by 9 days after the test date. Every other report costs $15. Here are the score fees from College Board's fee table, which covers fees through June 2027:
| Score service | Cost | Details |
|---|---|---|
| First 4 score reports | Free | Order by 9 days after a weekend test |
| Each additional score report | $15 | Also applies to reports ordered after the free window |
| Rush reporting | $31 plus the report fee | Sent in 1 to 4 business days; only for released scores |
| Archived scores | $35 plus the report fee | For scores archived after you leave high school and go a year without testing |
| Score reports with a fee waiver | Free, unlimited | Applies even if you get the waiver after testing |
So 4 colleges sent after the free window cost $60. One rushed report costs $46 ($15 plus the $31 rush fee). For every SAT fee in one place, see our breakdown of how much the SAT costs.
If you qualify for a fee waiver, you can send as many reports as you want for free. College Board says this works even if you did not use a waiver to register.

Use them if you are fairly sure you will send that test's score anyway. The catch is timing. The free window closes before your scores come out:
| SAT date | Last day to use or change free sends | Scores released |
|---|---|---|
| November 7, 2026 | November 16, 2026 | November 20, 2026 |
| December 5, 2026 | December 14, 2026 | December 18, 2026 |
| March 6, 2027 | March 15, 2027 | March 19, 2027 |
Release dates come from College Board's score release page. The free-send dates are 9 days after each test.
There is a second catch. College Board's Score Choice page says choosing which scores to send "is not available to any of your free score sends" picked at registration or during in-school testing. So a free send goes out whether that test went well or not.
- Use the free sends for schools you will apply to no matter what, especially if they consider all scores or superscore.
- Wait and pay for a school where one weak score could hurt you. Once you see your score, you can choose which test dates to send.

How do you send SAT School Day scores?
For an SAT taken at school, you pick free score sends during exam setup or within 3 days after testing. To change them, sign in to Bluebook with that test's sign-in ticket, go to Your Tests Past, and click SAT Score Sends. Three days after testing, your scores go to the colleges you chose. Extra colleges after that cost the regular report fee. Details are on College Board's School Day sending page.
How long does it take for colleges to get your SAT scores?
Standard sends usually take 5 to 10 business days after you place the order. If you picked colleges when you registered, College Board sends the scores a couple of weeks after test day. Rush reports go out in 1 to 4 business days, not counting weekends and holidays.
Before you pay for rush, call the college. College Board's rush reporting page suggests checking how quickly the school processes scores. It also says to ask whether early decision and early action programs accept October and November scores. Rush reports can't be changed or canceled.
Testing in November or December? Our guides to the November 2026 SAT and the December 2026 SAT list every deadline for those dates.
Which colleges should you send SAT scores to?
College Board recommends sending your scores to the schools you want to attend. To see how your score compares at each school first:
- Enter your SAT score and GPA in the College Finder. It matches you to colleges using U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard data, with no sign-up.
- Look up acceptance rates and SAT score ranges for 265 US colleges on our college profiles page.
- Read your own score report first. Our guide on how to check your SAT scores explains each part of it.
If your score sits below a school's range and one more test date fits before its deadline, think about a retake. The newest practice is in the October 2026 Reading and Writing bank and the October 2026 Math bank. You can also browse every SAT question bank or start with the free June 2026 Reading and Writing bank.
