Free SAT prep in 2026 can take you a long way. College Board gives you full-length Bluebook practice tests, Official SAT Prep on Khan Academy and a Student Question Bank with thousands of official questions, all at no cost. A free account on The Test Advantage adds one full-length adaptive test, 30 practice questions a day and a free SAT question bank for English.
The hard part is choosing an order. If you open five free tools at once, you end up doing a little of each and finishing none. This page lists what each free resource gives you, what it leaves out, and a four-week plan that uses them in a sensible order.
The best free SAT prep resources, compared
We read each provider's own page on October 23, 2026. The table shows what you get without paying.

|---|---|---|
| Bluebook practice tests (College Board) | Full-length, timed, scored practice tests in the same app you use on test day | A daily plan or drills between tests |
| Official SAT Prep on Khan Academy | Lessons at three levels (Foundations, Medium, Advanced), short videos, quizzes and walk-throughs of Bluebook practice tests | Its own full-length tests; you take those in Bluebook |
| Student Question Bank (College Board) | Thousands of official practice questions you can filter by section, domain, skill and difficulty | A timed test format or a score |
| Schoolhouse.world (linked by College Board) | Live, small-group tutoring led by trained peer tutors | One-on-one help on your schedule |
| The Test Advantage free account | One full-length adaptive test (English or Math), 30 practice questions a day, 10 Mr. O messages a day and a score report after your test | The paid question banks from 2023 to 2026 |

Start with one Bluebook practice test
Take your first full-length test in Bluebook. College Board times its full-length practice tests like test day and scores them, and you can review your answers in My Practice afterward. That first score tells you which section needs more of your time.
Free prep starts with a baseline. Create a free account and take one free full-length adaptive test (English or Math).
Start 1-day free trial →The Digital SAT has two sections. Reading and Writing gives you 64 minutes for 54 questions. Math gives you 70 minutes for 44 questions. Each section has two modules, and your second module gets harder or easier based on how you did on the first one. A practice test in Bluebook shows you how that feels before it counts.
Not sure which practice test to take first? Our guide to how many practice tests Bluebook has lists them, and the hardest Bluebook practice test tells you which one to save for last.
Use Khan Academy to fix skills, not to take tests
After a Bluebook test, College Board sends you from My Practice to a Khan Academy walk-through of that test. Each explanation ends with a link to the lesson for that skill. Khan's course teaches every skill at three levels, and most videos run about five minutes, so you can fit one in between classes.
Pick the two or three skills that cost you the most points and work through them from Foundations to Advanced. Khan Academy is free, but it will not tell you which skill to study next unless you take its Course Challenge first. For a longer look, read is Khan Academy enough for the Digital SAT.
Drill with question banks
College Board's Student Question Bank has thousands of official practice questions. You can filter by Reading and Writing or Math, then by domain, skill and difficulty. Use it when you know exactly which skill you want, such as transitions or linear equations.

TTA sorts its question banks by test date, from 2023 to 2026. One of them is free: the June 2026 English question bank. Every question in our English and Math banks carries a difficulty band from 1 (foundational) to 7 (hardest), so you can start where you are and move up.

A four-week free SAT prep plan
This plan uses only free tools. Plan on about an hour a day, five days a week.
- Week 1. Take one Bluebook practice test. Write down your three weakest skills from My Practice. Open the Khan Academy walk-through and redo every question you missed.
- Week 2. Study those three skills on Khan Academy, Foundations first. Finish each day with 10 questions on the same skill from the Student Question Bank.
- Week 3. Take the free TTA adaptive test to see a likely score range and a breakdown by skill. Use your 30 free daily practice questions on the topics it flags.
- Week 4. Take a second Bluebook practice test. Compare the two score reports. Skills that did not move go to the top of next month's list.

When free SAT prep stops being enough
Free resources run out in two places. You can finish the official practice tests, and you can lose track of which mistakes you have already fixed. If you want a big score jump, expect to hit both.
That is when paid prep starts to earn its cost. TTA Premium costs 39.99 dollars a month or 250 dollars a year on our pricing page. It opens 45 Digital SAT question banks from 2023 to 2026, adaptive tests with a likely score range, a daily plan built from your misses, and Mr. O on every question. Other companies charge more: PrepScholar lists its Complete Online SAT Prep at 397 dollars, and Kaplan's Live Online course starts at 680 dollars on its own page. Our breakdown of the most cost-effective Digital SAT prep compares more options.
Try the free route first. Create a free account, take your one free adaptive test, and decide after you see your score report.

TTA facts come from our live pricing page and our tests database on the same day. Prices change, so check each provider's page before you buy.
