An SAT mock test is a full-length practice SAT taken under real test conditions: 98 questions in 2 hours 14 minutes, with a Reading and Writing section and a Math section. Each section has two adaptive modules. The best free SAT mock test is an official practice test in College Board's Bluebook app.
Short answer: take your first mock test in Bluebook, at a desk, in one sitting. When you finish the official tests, take a free adaptive section on The Test Advantage, then practice by skill in our SAT question bank.
What is an SAT mock test?
A mock test copies the real SAT from start to finish: the same question counts, the same timing, the same adaptive routing and the same break. A quiz or one untimed section won't give you a test-day score.
College Board says each section is "divided into 2 equal-length modules." Module 1 has a broad mix of easy, medium and hard questions. Based on how you do, Module 2 is either more or less difficult. This is how the real test is laid out, per How the SAT Is Structured:
| Part of the test | Questions | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Reading and Writing, Module 1 | 27 | 32 minutes |
| Reading and Writing, Module 2 (easier or harder) | 27 | 32 minutes |
| Break | None | 10 minutes |
| Math, Module 1 | 22 | 35 minutes |
| Math, Module 2 (easier or harder) | 22 | 35 minutes |
| Total | 98 | 2 hours 14 minutes, plus the break |
College Board lists 54 Reading and Writing questions in 64 minutes and 44 Math questions in 70 minutes. We split those into two equal modules, as College Board describes.
Review by skill after every mock test. Practice Digital SAT questions sorted by domain and skill.

1. Bluebook practice tests
Bluebook is the app you will test in. College Board says its practice tests "are timed like a real test, except you can move forward from one section to the next before time expires." College Board scores them, and you can review every question in My Practice afterward. Details are on the Bluebook practice test page.
2. Paper PDF practice tests
College Board's paper practice test page lists SAT Practice Tests 4 through 11 as paper bundles, each with a scoring guide and answer explanations. These are nonadaptive. College Board says they are "recommended only for students who will test with paper-based accommodations on test day."
3. The Test Advantage adaptive tests
See which question types are costing you points
Start with a free mock, free drills, or preview sample questions before using all 45 question banks.
Our adaptive tests use the real module sizes and times. A Reading and Writing test has 27 + 27 questions in 32 + 32 minutes. A Math test has 22 + 22 questions in 35 + 35 minutes. Module 2 routes easier or harder based on Module 1, and the results page shows which route you got. Each test covers one section, so for a full mock, take one Reading and Writing test and one Math test back to back with a 10-minute break.
A free account includes 1 full-length adaptive test and a score report. Create a free account, or browse every test in the practice test catalog first.
4. Paid courses and tutoring bundles
Some prep companies include full-length tests in what they sell. Kaplan's course listing says "4 full-length, adaptive SAT practice tests." Princeton Review lists "9 full-length digital SAT practice tests" with its tutoring packages. These come with a paid course, so compare the full price. Our page on how much SAT tutoring costs lists the published prices.
How do you take an SAT mock test at home?
Make the conditions as close to test day as you can. A relaxed, paused test gives you a score you cannot trust.
- Sit it in one go. College Board recommends taking "at least one practice test in Bluebook in one sitting just like you will on test day," per How to Use Bluebook Practice Tests.
- Use a desk. College Board suggests a table or desk, not a couch or bed, with as few distractions as possible.
- Take the 10-minute break and no more. Set a timer for the break between sections.
- Use the real tools. Bluebook has a Desmos calculator, a reference sheet, highlights and notes, an option eliminator and mark for review, per Bluebook Testing Tools. Practice Desmos ahead of time on our free Desmos for the SAT page.
- Watch your pacing. Note where you ran short on time. That matters as much as the score.
What should you do after an SAT mock test?
Review every missed question and every lucky guess, since those show you what to study next.
- In Bluebook: open Score Details in My Practice to see each question, your answer and the correct answer. Then use Get Tailored Practice for a custom set on the skills you missed.
- On Khan Academy: College Board says the Practice on Khan Academy button gives "a detailed explanation of every question on that practice test," per its Khan Academy page.
- By skill: sort your misses by skill and drill them. Try the free June 2026 Reading and Writing question bank or the SAT skill drills.
- On paper: if you took a PDF test, score it with College Board's scoring guide, or count correct answers per module and use the Digital SAT score calculator for a quick estimate.
How many SAT mock tests should you take?
College Board recommends at least one adaptive practice test in Bluebook before test day, per its paper practice test page. Beyond that, the College Board pages we read do not give a number.
Our advice: take one mock test at the start to find your baseline. Then take another only after you have reviewed the last one and worked on what it showed. Taking tests back to back without review uses up official tests without teaching you much. Save at least one fresh official test for the last weeks before your test date.

How we built this page
Test structure, timing, practice test rules and review tools come from College Board pages read on October 13, 2026. The module question counts are College Board's section totals split into its two equal-length modules. The Test Advantage details come from our adaptive_tests table and our pricing page on the same day. Kaplan and Princeton Review quotes come from their own pages. The advice on how many tests to take is ours, not College Board's. Verified 2026-10-13.
