Princeton Review's SAT prep page did not show course prices when we read it, so we left it out of the table. It advertises a free practice test and a score guarantee with restrictions. For tutoring rates by the hour, see how much SAT tutoring costs. The test fee itself is a separate cost, covered in how much the SAT costs.

What you pay more for

The price jumps at two points. You pay more when a live teacher joins, and you pay much more when that teacher works with one student. Within one company, the practice material often stays the same: every Kaplan option on its page lists 4 practice tests, and every PrepScholar option lists 150+ hours of prep content.

Look at the hours. Kaplan's 680-dollar course includes 18 hours of live instruction, which works out to about 38 dollars per live hour. PrepScholar's 895-dollar option includes up to 36 hours of live classes. If your student learns well alone, a self-paced program at a few hundred dollars a year may give you the same practice for less.

Questions to ask before you pay

  • How many practice questions and tests come with it? Check whether full-length tests adapt between Module 1 and Module 2, as the Digital SAT does.
  • How long does access last? PrepScholar lists 12 months. TTA bills monthly or yearly, and you can cancel from your profile; access runs to the end of the paid period.
  • What does the guarantee require? Guarantees come with conditions. Our guide to SAT prep score guarantees explains what to read in the fine print.
  • Can you try it first? Use the free tools for two weeks. If your student does the work alone, self-paced prep may be enough.

A low-cost plan to try first

  1. Free first. Take one Bluebook practice test and review it with the Khan Academy walk-through.
  2. Find the gap. Take the free TTA adaptive test for a likely score range and a breakdown by skill. Practice the free June 2026 English question bank.
  3. Pay for practice only if you need more. TTA Premium is 39.99 dollars for one month, or 250 dollars for a year (about 20.83 dollars a month).
  4. Add a live teacher last. If your student still stalls on the same skills after a month of steady practice, a class or tutor targets those skills.
