SAT Math practice questions by topic: the 4 official domains
College Board sorts every SAT Math question into one of four domains. Algebra and Advanced Math carry most of the section. The Digital SAT assessment framework gives the share of scored questions for each one.
When you are ready to put all four domains together, take a timed SAT math practice test.
| Domain | Scored questions per test | Share | Official skills | Free TTA lesson notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Algebra | 13 to 15 | 35% | Linear equations in 1 and 2 variables, linear functions, systems of 2 linear equations, linear inequalities | Systems of two linear equations |
| Advanced Math | 13 to 15 | 35% | Equivalent expressions, nonlinear equations and systems, nonlinear functions | Quadratic equations |
| Problem-Solving and Data Analysis | 5 to 7 | 15% | Ratios, rates and units; percentages; one-variable data; two-variable data; probability; inference and margin of error; evaluating statistical claims | Percent change |
| Geometry and Trigonometry | 5 to 7 | 15% | Area and volume; lines, angles and triangles; right triangles and trigonometry; circles | Right-triangle trigonometry |
The whole section has 44 questions in 70 minutes, split into two 35-minute modules, per College Board's SAT structure page. Four of the 44 are unscored pretest questions, which is why the domain ranges add up to 40. Questions from all four domains appear in each module, and each module runs from easiest to hardest, per the Math section overview.
To drill one domain at a time, use an SAT math question bank filtered by topic and difficulty.
About 75% of the questions are multiple choice. The rest ask you to type your own answer, which College Board calls a student-produced response. Two of the questions below use that format.
Algebra practice questions
Algebra questions test linear equations, functions, systems and inequalities. Look for a shortcut before you solve the long way.
Two misses in one domain show you where to start. Take one full-length adaptive SAT section free and get a scaled score.
Start 1-day free trial →Question 1: systems of linear equations
From the September 2026 SAT Math Question Bank. TTA difficulty: Intermediate.
x + 3y = 18
5x + y = 3
The solution to the given system of equations is (x, y). What is the value of 6x + 4y?
A) 9
B) 15
C) 21
D) 36
Show the answer
C) 21. Add the two equations. The left sides give 6x + 4y, and the right sides give 18 + 3 = 21. You never need to find x or y. When a question asks for a combination like 6x + 4y, try adding or subtracting the equations first.
Question 2: linear inequalities
From the November 2025 SAT Math Question Bank. TTA difficulty: Intermediate.
Zuri has a goal to run at least 16 miles per week while training for a race. This week, she has run 4 miles. If x represents the additional number of miles Zuri needs to run this week to meet her goal, which inequality represents this situation?
A) 4 − x ≤ 16
B) 4 + x ≤ 16
C) 4 − x ≥ 16
D) 4 + x ≥ 16
Show the answer
D) 4 + x ≥ 16. Her total is the 4 miles she ran plus the x more she will run, so 4 + x. "At least 16" means the total is 16 or more, so the sign is ≥. Choice B has the right total but the sign reversed.

Advanced Math practice questions
Advanced Math covers quadratics, exponents, polynomials and other nonlinear work. It carries as many questions as Algebra, so it deserves as much practice time.
Question 3: quadratic equations
From the September 2026 SAT Math Question Bank. TTA difficulty: Intermediate.
4x2 − 36 = 64
What is the positive solution to the given equation?
A) 5
B) 16
C) 25
D) 100
Show the answer
A) 5. Add 36 to both sides: 4x2 = 100. Divide by 4: x2 = 25. So x = 5 or x = −5, and the positive solution is 5. Choice C is the value of x2, not x, so check what the question asks for.

Question 4: exponential functions
From the November 2025 SAT Math Question Bank. TTA difficulty: Intermediate.
The relationship between the variables x and y is defined by an exponential equation. When x = 0, the value of y is 40, and for every increase in the value of x by 1, the corresponding value of y increases by 50% of its previous value. Which equation represents this relationship?
A) y = 40(1.50)x
B) y = 40(1.05)x
C) y = 50(1.40)x
D) y = 50(1.04)x
Show the answer
A) y = 40(1.50)x. The starting value, when x = 0, is 40. A 50% increase each step means you multiply by 1 + 0.50 = 1.50. Choice B uses 1.05, which would be a 5% increase.

Problem-Solving and Data Analysis practice questions
This domain is about percents, rates, data sets and statistics. Many use a real-world setting, so read the units and labels with care.
Question 5: percent change (type your answer)
From the September 2026 SAT Math Question Bank. TTA difficulty: Intermediate.
The price of an item increased by p% from $64 to $68. What is the value of p?
Show the answer
6.25. Percent change is the change divided by the starting value. The change is 68 − 64 = 4. Then 4 ÷ 64 = 0.0625, which is 6.25%. Dividing by 68, the new price, gives about 5.9 instead.
Question 6: standard deviation
From the August 2026 SAT Math Question Bank. TTA difficulty: Intermediate.
In each of the following data sets of 5 values, p is a constant. Which of these data sets has the largest standard deviation?
A) p − 5, p − 5, p, p + 5, p + 5
B) p − 6, p, p, p, p + 6
C) p − 9, p − 6, p, p + 6, p + 9
D) p, p, p, p, p
Show the answer
C. Standard deviation measures how far the values sit from the mean. Every set has mean p. In set C, four of the five values are 6 or 9 away from p. That is more spread than A or B. Set D has no spread at all, so its standard deviation is 0. You do not need to calculate anything here.

Geometry and Trigonometry practice questions
Geometry questions often come with a figure. You get a reference sheet of common formulas during the test, but you still need to know which formula fits.
Question 7: circles
From the August 2026 SAT Math Question Bank. TTA difficulty: Intermediate.
A circle has center O, and points P and Q lie on the circle such that segment PQ is a diameter of the circle. The length of arc PQ is 22 centimeters. What is the circumference, in centimeters, of the circle?
A) 11
B) 22
C) 44
D) 360
Show the answer
C) 44. A diameter cuts the circle into two equal halves. So arc PQ is half the circle, and the full circumference is 2 × 22 = 44 centimeters.
Question 8: right-triangle trigonometry (type your answer)
From the August 2026 SAT Math Question Bank. TTA difficulty: Hard. The bank shows a figure; here it is in words.
Triangle PQR has its right angle at R. Side PR has length 23. In triangle PQR, the sine of angle Q is 1/2. What is the length of PQ?
Show the answer
46. Sine is opposite over hypotenuse. The side opposite angle Q is PR = 23. The hypotenuse is PQ, the side across from the right angle. So 23 ÷ PQ = 1/2, and PQ = 46.
