October 2026 SAT scores came out on Friday, October 16, 2026. We read the r/SAT score release thread and pulled every comment where a student posted a real total. Then we lined those up next to 12 score reports that students at The Test Advantage sent us the same day. This page shows both sets of numbers in charts, explains what the jumps and drops mean, and shows why practicing repeated questions matters before you retake in November or December.
Short answer: 65 students in the Reddit thread posted an October total. The median was 1470, and 29 of the 65 (45%) scored 1500 or higher. Of the 38 who also gave an earlier score, 28 went up, 3 stayed the same and 7 went down. Our 12 TTA students scored from 1180 to 1560 in October, with a median of 1390, and three posted gains of 80 to 120 points. Across all 72 TTA score reports we have from 2024 to October 2026, the median is 1480 and 34 scored 1500 or higher. Reddit posters are not a random sample. Students with high scores are more likely to post them.

Bar length = number of students, scaled to the largest group (29).
| Group | Students | Lowest | Median | Average | Highest |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| r/SAT posters | 65 | 1100 | 1470 | 1445 | 1590 |
| TTA students | 12 | 1180 | 1390 | 1387 | 1560 |
Neither group stands for all test takers. r/SAT is a forum for students who are very focused on the test, and students are more likely to post a score they are proud of. For results across every test taker, see College Board's 2026 SAT annual report.
Did students go up or down on the October SAT?
Most students who gave a before-and-after score went up. 38 students posted both an October total and an earlier total, and 28 of them (74%) improved.
Chart 2: Point change from an earlier SAT to October 2026 (38 Reddit students)
| +200 or more | 3 students | |
| +100 to +190 | 15 students | |
| +1 to +90 | 10 students | |
| No change | 3 students | |
| Went down | 7 students |
Biggest jumps: 1050 to 1410 (+360), 1070 to 1410 (+340), 1280 to 1530 (+250). Biggest drops: 1470 to 1360 and 1400 to 1290 (−110 each). Median change: +90 points.
Four more comments said the student dropped (by 40, 40, 50 and 100+ points) without giving both totals, so they are not in the chart. Several students also wrote that one section dropped while the other rose. Two patterns came up again and again:
- Sections moved in opposite directions. One student went from 680 to 730 in Reading and Writing but from 710 to 660 in Math, for the same 1390 total. Another said Math "kinda dropped" while Reading went up 40. This is why many students plan to retake in November and use a superscore.
- Feelings after the test were wrong. One student thought the October test "went horrible," then scored 1530. Another was sure they missed only one English question and scored lower than expected. How a test feels is not a good guess of the score.
Is the SAT curved?
No, not the way most students mean. A student in the thread asked whether hard questions would be worth fewer points. Another student answered that the SAT is "never curved only equated." That matches College Board. Its scoring page says your score depends on the "characteristics of the questions they answered right or wrong (e.g., the questions' difficulty levels)." So two students with the same number right can get different scores. Our page on how hard the October 2026 SAT was explains the Module 2 effect in more detail.

What did students at The Test Advantage score?
Twelve TTA students sent us their October 2026 College Board score reports. We show the scores only. No names.

Blue = Reading and Writing. Orange = Math. Average: RW 697, Math 690.
What the TTA numbers show:
- Every student scored 610 or higher in Reading and Writing. The average was 697. Seven of the 12 scored higher in Reading and Writing than in Math.
- Three reports show a gain printed by College Board: +120 (to 1560), +100 (to 1480) and +80 (1430 in June to 1510 in October).
- Six students scored 1400 or higher. Two scored 1500 or higher.
- Math is where the lower totals lost points. The three lowest totals (1180, 1280, 1290) all had Math at 630 or below. Those students' next step is Math practice, not more Reading.
Twelve students is a small group, and these are students who chose to share. We are not claiming an average gain for all TTA students.
How have TTA students scored on other SAT dates?
October is one test. We also keep every score report students have sent us. Before October 2026, we have 60 dated College Board reports from 2024 through June 2026. Add the 12 from October and that makes 72 reports.
- Median of all 72: 1480.
- 34 of 72 (47%) scored 1500 or higher.
- 55 of 72 (76%) scored 1400 or higher.

Why repeated questions matter for your next SAT
The Digital SAT reuses content. That is the main reason to practice with questions from recent tests instead of random practice sets.
When we rebuilt the October 2026 test from student reports, a big share of it matched earlier tests in our collection. Our October 2026 Reading and Writing Question Bank lists 94 repeated passages out of 300 (31%), matched across 27 other tests. The December 2025 bank had the biggest overlap, with 21 shared passages. The October 2026 Math Question Bank lists 25 repeated items out of 106 (24%), led by November 2025 with 7.
Chart 6: Share of October 2026 bank items that repeated earlier tests
| Reading and Writing | 94 of 300 | |
| Math | 25 of 106 |
Our students noticed the repeats too. A few messages they sent us after recent tests (names removed):
- "All the vocab came in module 2, even in order." (June 2025)
- "Half the questions were the same." (June 2025)
- "In fact the whole of module 2 was repeated." (June 2025)
- "I also got two qs in M2 and they saved me time." (May 2025)
These are individual reports, not measurements. The bank numbers above are the measured part.
A student who had worked the December 2025 and November 2025 banks would have seen familiar passages in October. Repeats are not a promise that any one question comes back. They do show that recent real-test content is the closest practice you can get. Two places to start:
- Most repeated Digital SAT Hard Module 2 vocabulary words (2026)
- SAT predictions 2026: how we find the questions most likely to repeat

Should you retake the SAT in November or December?
Retake if your score is below the middle range of the colleges on your list and you have time to fix a specific weak area. One reply in the thread said that above 1500, a retake "barely moves the needle in applications." That is one student's opinion, but it reflects how many students think about it.
College Board's dates and deadlines page lists November 7, 2026 as the next SAT, with a registration deadline of October 23 and a late deadline of October 27. December 5, 2026 follows, with a registration deadline of November 20. Details are in our November 2026 SAT guide and December 2026 SAT guide.

How we built this page: Reddit figures come from the public r/SAT thread "Official October 3, 2026, SAT Score Release Discussion Thread," read on October 16, 2026. The thread showed 265 comments; we loaded 243 of them while logged in, across four sort orders, and read every one. We kept 65 students who posted an October total after scores were released, one score per username, and we do not show usernames. October TTA figures come from 12 College Board score report screenshots that students sent us on October 16, 2026. Earlier TTA figures come from 60 dated score reports in our student proofs collection (2024 to June 2026); undated screenshots, section-only reports and a duplicate were left out; gains are shown only where College Board printed them on the report or the report showed an earlier test. Names were removed. Repeated-content figures come from the repeated-content reports on TTA's October 2026 bank pages, as reported in our October 13, 2026 difficulty analysis. Dates, release times and scoring quotes come from College Board pages linked above.
