SAT Admission Ticket and ID: What You Need on Test Day

Quick Answer

For the digital SAT, you get your admission ticket in the Bluebook app starting 5 days before test day, after completing exam setup. You also need a physical photo ID with the same legal name you registered with, and a charged testing device with Bluebook installed.

Short answer: your SAT admission ticket comes from the Bluebook app, starting 5 days before test day, after you finish exam setup. Bring it printed if you can, along with a physical photo ID (not a phone photo) that shows the same legal name you registered with.

How to get your admission ticket

  1. Five days before the test, open Bluebook and find your SAT under Your Tests.
  2. Complete the short exam setup.
  3. Get your admission ticket. You can print it, take a picture of it, or email it to yourself. College Board says a printed ticket is preferred.

You can show the ticket on your phone, but staff will collect the phone before the test. If you borrow a device from College Board, arrive by 7:15 a.m. to set it up, and you get your ticket after that.

ID rules

  • Physical ID only: an electronic ID on your phone does not count. College Board lists accepted IDs at sat.org/id.
  • Name must match: register with your full legal name exactly as it appears on your ID. A nickname on one and your full name on the other can get you turned away.
  • Photo must match: the photo you upload when you register must look like you on test day. You can change it up to 5 days before the test.

At check-in, staff compare your ID, ticket and appearance with their roster. If something does not match, College Board says it may turn you away, dismiss you, or cancel your scores.

SAT School Day is different

If you take the SAT at your own school during the school day, you only need photo ID if you are homeschooled or testing at a school other than your own.
